Brightline West $3B grant signed, puts Vegas to Southern California project on track

Based on the Victorville Daily Press’s publication on October 01st, 2024 that the Federal Railroad Administration has signed a $3 billion agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation for the Brightline West high-speed rail project, connecting Las Vegas to Southern California. This will be the first high-speed rail in the U.S., with trains traveling over 200 mph along a 218-mile route on Interstate 15, with stops in Las Vegas, Apple Valley, Hesperia, and Rancho Cucamonga, where it will link to Los Angeles’ Metrolink. The project is funded through both public and private sources, including a $3 billion grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and $3.5 billion in private activity bonds.

Brightline West will be built using American materials, with Siemens Mobility supplying 10 train sets. The project, which has full environmental clearance, will create over 35,000 jobs, including 10,000 union construction positions. The rail line, expected to be operational by 2028, is part of a nearly $12 billion privately led infrastructure initiative. Brightline West aims to be operational before the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
