Hesperia Tapestry Project Moves Forward

Progress continues on the master-planned Tapestry Project in Hesperia.Hesperia Tapestry Project

After several months, it looks like the Hesperia Tapestry project has forward momentum yet again. This major housing project planned for southeast Hesperia—in Summit Valley particularly—will create a major change for the area. Tapestry aims to convert nearly 10,000 acres to nearly 20,000 homes over the course of the next three decades. As a result, officials are putting it through a rigorous planning process.

Tapestry has been in the environmental impact report (EIR) portion of this process for almost six months, but it looks like there is forward momentum for it yet again. An ad hoc committee made up of the mayor, a city councilman, city staff members, and other consultants and developers undertook the EIR. Over several months, they have been looking at not just the community itself, but also its further-reaching ramifications on population density, traffic flow, and other aspects.

Now, the committee has turned the project—along with its EIR—over to Hesperia’s Planning Commission for review. Councilman Paul Russ said the ad hoc committee made nearly three dozen recommendations based on the EIR, and the developers behind Tapestry have agreed to the majority of them. Even so, they need a development agreement with the city council before they can even break ground in Summit Valley.

Ultimately, it looks like the Hesperia Tapestry project continues to move forward but needs to survive the remaining processes in order to begin its massive developmental undertaking in the area.
