Gated Apartments Planned For Main Street In Hesperia

Hesperia could be making way for gated apartment complex on Main Street.Gated Apartments to Main St. in Hesperia

This month, the City Council has been discussing changing Hesperia’s zone restrictions. These changes would clear the way for a gated complex of 200 apartments to be put in on Main Street, west of Interstate 15.

This complex would be put in over 50 acres on the northwest corner of Main Street and Mesa Linda Avenue and would be made up of 100 two-unit buildings. In order to make this project possible, six acres need to be rezoned from commercial to low-density residential housing.

The City Council is entertaining the idea, as it would bring higher-end rentals to Hesperia. Each of the units would have private yards and two-car garages, and the complex would be beautified with water-efficient landscaping.

The project is supported by the General Plan Housing Element of Hesperia.

With the complex, over 1,300 more car trips would be created. To offset this potential inconvenience to the existing community, the developer will be required to create curbs, sidewalks, gutters, and other street improvements on Main Street and Mesa Linda Avenue as far as this development extends. Furthermore, the city plans to require the developer to pay the development impact fees.

The City Council has placed this development on future meeting agendas and will open it for public comment.
