Petco Opens New 10k-Square-Foot Store in Hesperia

According to the Victorville Daily Press, October 19, 2015, city, community and regional leaders gathered for the ribbon cutting of the High Desert’s newest pet store. Hesperia’s new 10,000-square-foot Petco location is on Main Street and Escondido Avenue. As over a dozen smiling Petco employees stood nearby, Mayor Eric Schmidt told the crowd that 100 workers were used during construction of the big-box store that sits across the parking lot from the Wal-Mart Supercenter in The Marketplace on Main shopping center. Schmidt told the Daily Press the new Petco is part of the 24,000-square-foot project that will soon see several new businesses including Pieology Pizzeria, The Habit Burger Grill, Yogurtland and MetroPCS. During the ribbon cutting, construction crews worked inside a second new building that will house the new stores. The event came a little over six months after Pacific Development Group’s Tony Zarinelli and city and community leaders broke ground on the project that is expected to generate over $8 million in taxable sales per year, adding about 60 permanent jobs. Petco is located at 13319 Main Street.
