New Elementary Campus Breaks Ground in Victorville

According to the Victorville Daily Press, May 29, 2015, Victor Elementary School District broke ground on the new K-6 Arrowhead Elementary School to be built just south of the Green Tree Golf Course in Victorville. Arrowhead Elementary will be the new campus of Galileo School of Gifted and Talented Education, which will grow from its 500 or so students to 700 through new enrollment, according to VESD Superintendent Jan Gonzales. Board Vice President Dr. Gabe Stine said the district has had the 9.6 acres of vacant land west of Arrowhead Drive and south of Warwick Street for years, and recent growth has spurred their choice to start building. The new school will be the first they’ve built in nine years, and will be the 17th in the district, according to Gonzales. Gonzales estimated that if the district continues growing at the current rate, they’ll need another school within the next two or three years. Galileo, which currently meets on Silica Drive in Victorville, is a GATE strategy-focused school which also offers an independent study program. Arrowhead Elementary is set to open in August for the 2016 to 2017 school year, and enrollment will begin this spring.
