Construction Picking Up in Adelanto

According to the Victorville Daily Press, August 20, 2019, new development is proposed along Adelanto’s southern border that would bring a gas station, car wash and a 5,000 square-foot convenience store to the northeast corner of Palmdale Road and Bellflower Street. A drive-thru restaurant may also be built at the site in the near future, according to a staff report. A public hearing on the project is scheduled for the planning commission meeting at Adelanto City Hall. Commissioners will meet to discuss an agenda that lists several construction projects, including some cannabis-based ones. Several cannabis operators are proposing to expand or construct operations with new greenhouses, buildings for manufacturing and indoor growing, plus additional commercial marijuana activity set for the city’s green zone. City Manager Jessie Flores said city staff is planning to speak with Southern California Edison about bringing more electricity to Adelanto to service cannabis operators whose buildings are built yet do not have the electricity needed to grow cannabis. For now, many cannabis operators are purchasing or leasing generators to supplement their power needs. With more electricity available, Flores said new cannabis businesses would flow into the city. Adelanto is looking to add non-motorized paths to connect the north and south parts of town. He said new home construction projects are also set to pick up. Plans call for both single family homes and mixed-use construction, aimed at creating walkable communities.
