Amazon To Open ‘Last Mile Delivery Station’ in Victorville
As mentioned in the Victorville Daily Press, March 14, 2021, Tech giant Amazon will soon open a “Last Mile Delivery Station” in the empty building that once housed Walmart in the Bear Valley Plaza Shopping Center in Victorville. The company’s delivery stations are designed to “power the last mile of Amazon’s order fulfillment process.” Packages are transported to delivery stations from the company’s fulfillment and sortation centers, then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers, Amazon said. The new Victorville delivery station, inside the nearly 126,000-square-foot building, is expected to open later this year and bring 150 new jobs to the area, city spokesperson Sue Jones said. The delivery station will also offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build small businesses by delivering Amazon packages. The station will also allow independent contractors to deliver via Amazon Flex, which enlists drivers to deliver packages for the nation’s largest online retailer. Exterior changes include the addition of roll-up bay doors on the north and west elevations, and a new canopy at the north elevation to accommodate vehicle loading and staging. A newly constructed entrance façade will be used as an employee entrance and exit, and as a customer service area for the pick-up and return of items. The traffic circulation pattern in the parking lots throughout the site will be redesigned to accommodate customer and employee parking, as well as delivery vehicle parking and staging.
