Adelanto Council Seeks Ways to Up Revenue by Expanding Cannabis Industry

As mentioned in the Victorville Daily Press, August 22, 2019, the two cannabis dispensaries serving recreational users in the Victor Valley sit within the Adelanto city limits, with a third on its way and another license available but unused. The number of dispensaries could increase from four to eight as part of a package of proposed changes to the city’s cannabis laws discussed by the city council. The revisions are aimed at generating additional revenue for the city. Possible changes include expanding the dispensary zone to allow four more dispensary locations along both U.S. Highway 395 and Palmdale Road, two of the city’s most travelled thoroughfares. The council also considered allowing on-site cannabis consumption lounges, where adults could enjoy consuming cannabis in an environment similar to a hookah or cigar lounge. The council also considered allowing the growth of industrial hemp in the city. Concrete-like products made of hemp are used as material for construction and insulation, branded under names such as “hempcrete.” The council also discussed allowing delivery services to operate legally within the city.
