Shoppes at Spanish Trails to benefit the community of Barstow.
Barstow is excited to bring the Shoppes at Spanish Trails to the area. The city entered into an exclusive negotiating agreement with the Developers of the project. A few weeks ago, representatives from the development team arranged to take state officials on a tour of Barstow to help with the planning of the proposed project. The Shoppes at Spanish Trails is a master planned 800,000 square-foot shopping center that would be on approximately 112 acres located off of L Avenue and Main Street. The development will include amenities such as various retailers, hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, and much more.
Right now is Barstow’s time to shine! In addition to the proposed Shoppes at Spanish Trails project, the city is welcoming the Montara Place Shipping Center that will be anchored by a Super Wal-Mart and is expected to be completed by fall 2016. Also, according to the new owners of the Outlets of Barstow, formerly known as Tanger outlets, there could be a 40,000 to 50,000 square foot expansion in the near future. The Developers of the Shoppes at Spanish Trails are optimistic that the community can support all of it and it will benefit the area and hopefully get people to shop locally rather than drive to other cities.
Out of the 112 acres of land that the Shoppes at Spanish Trails is expected to be built on, approximately 58 acres is owned by the Bureau of Land Management and the State Lands Commission. According to the Developers of the project, the plan is that the Bureau of Land Management will sell their portion to the state. The state will then sell to the city and finally the Developers will acquire the land from the city. They hope to break ground sometime in 2018 and expect the buildout to take 3 to 5 years.
