Barstow Arts Academy Set to Premiere

As stated in an article in the Victorville Daily Press, April 2, 2019, Barstow Unified School District’s new Fine Arts Academy is due to open at the start of the 2019-2020 school year. A recent walk-through of the site at 500 Avenue G indicated construction is going well, said Devin Vargas, school district spokesman. Framing and walls are going up on the $29 million project, which includes new construction and renovation of existing school buildings. Grounds are also being prepared for landscaping. The academy will be the district’s second magnet school, and accommodate up to 650 students. The new academy will provide dedicated facilities for Barstow students in creative arts-related fields such as music, visual arts and performance. Plans also call for track and field space, art and music venues, library services and meeting areas being built as part of the project to be available for use by members of the public. A multi-use building will be used for theater events and include dressing room spaces.
